About Indian Head Massage:
Indian head massage (IHM) is an ancient Indian healing therapy that goes back thousands of years. It is based on the Indian Ayurvedic healing system, and massages pressure points on the upper back, neck, shoulders, face and head using firm rhythmic circular strokes.
It is an invigorating, revitalising and uplifting treatment with the use of oils (optional) on the scalp. Benefits of IHM are many: relaxation, stress relief, increased feelings of peace, calm and wellbeing, renewed energy levels, assistance with relief from anxiety and depression, relief from headaches/migraines, insomnia as well as stiff neck, back and shoulders, sinusitis, and help improve circulation. It also relaxes and tones the facial muscles and stimulates and nourishes the hair and scalp condition. The treatment is done whilst you are seated and loose clothing is recommended.
About Reflexology:
This incredibly relaxing ancient Chinese energy (Qi) therapy that goes back centuries, the earliest recorded use of reflexology is from around 2330 BC and is found in a picture discovered in the Physician’s Tomb at Saqqara Egypt. Healing by foot stimulation was used by many of the ancient civilizations including those of Africa, India and Egypt. The Chinese still continue to practice this form of healing and it is also known as zone therapy. It involves the gentle application of pressure and massage techniques along targeted points and zones around the feet (hands and ears can also be done).
Reflexologists believe that the body is divided into ten zones or energy pathways running from the head to the toes. Reflexology is also thought to work on the nerve pathways within the body, stimulating and balancing the nervous system whilst improving circulation throughout the body.
A reflexology treatment releases toxins that may have built up in the body through lifestyle, diet and pollutants. It can also help release excess fluids from the tissues. Reflexology can aid the removal of energetic blocks, held emotion, trauma by stimulating the body’s natural energy flow. Any sensations felt by the client during a session such as tenderness or pain felt are caused by a build-up of crystalline deposits due to imbalances, blocked energy in the body. The body can then repair and heal itself. Some of the many benefits of reflexology are reduction in general aches and pains, boost energy balancing blood pressure and circulation, reduction in anxiety & depression, colds & flu, infections, speed up recovery from a stroke, side effects of cancer treatment (e.g. pain management, helping with rest, sleep and recovery from chemotherapy), digestive and constipation issues, aid relaxation for pregnant women, infertility issues and bereavement. This treatment is done with the client lying down with shoes and socks off. Depending on your personal choice, talc or oils is used to aid gentle massaging of the feet.
