Harbour Fish is a family-owned and operated seafood business based in Dunedin, New Zealand. They are involved in the harvest, processing and sale of all of our fresh produce to ensure the seafood we deliver is of the highest possible quality. Their fresh product is caught between Timaru and Bluff by small inshore fishing boats, most of whom have worked with them since they started out 10+ years ago. They are typically owner-operated, and many – particularly our iwi fishermen who catch Ngai Tahu allocated quota - are run by second, third or even fourth generation fishermen.

Their fish is caught to pre-existing orders or known demand, to ensure our fishermen catch only what they need, and that minimal fish is wasted. Fish spends as little time as possible on deck before being iced, refrigerated and delivered to their factory for processing, often within a matter of hours. They work with their fishermen to ensure best practice care standards are met, and reward them for delivering them the freshest catch possible. In many cases, customers can receive their fish within 24 – 48 hours of it being landed at sea.

New Zealand is considered a world leader in fisheries management. The Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) is the architect and regulator of their quota system. The system is reviewed annually and catch limits for New Zealand set by species and region to ensure the long-term sustainability of our fishery. As a company, they are committed to ensuring they can continue to catch and enjoy what our ocean offers for many future generations. They believe in eating a little of all of the fish species on offer, rather than a lot of a few of them. They want their customers to step out of their comfort zones and try something new, which is while you’ll often find them championing lesser-known and eaten species (they’re delicious, they promise!). From their Ministry of Primary Industries accredited (PH51) processing plants, they supply their retail stores in Dunedin and Queenstown, service a large number of restaurant and wholesale accounts nationally, and export fresh and frozen product internationally.
