Details:
This deal really could be a game-changer for you, or the perfect gift for someone who's always been irrationally jealous of birds. There are a few things you'll need to know about this spectacular opportunity first though:
You will receive by email a pack containing information about the club and the aircraft you will be flying, together with a lesson guide for you to read before you come along for your flight. On arrival at the club, you will get a full flight briefing from your instructor who will explain in detail the planned flight and then take you to the aircraft.
The instructor will then conduct a pre-flight of the aircraft with you, explaining what they are doing and why. You will then sit in the pilot’s seat whilst the instructor explains starting the aircraft, taxis to the runway and performs the take-off with you “following through” on the controls.
Once airborne at a safe altitude, the instructor will let you take control of the aircraft and teach you some basics, like maintaining level flight, climbing and descending - you will actually be flying an aircraft (how cool is that?). The actual manoeuvres carried out will depend on the instructor’s discretion and how well you follow the instructions during your 45-minute evaluation flight.
Once the lesson is complete, you will return the airport and the instructor will land the aircraft, again with you following-through on the controls. The intention of the program is to introduce people to the awesome feeling of flying and if at any time you are not comfortable in the air, just say so and the instructor will land the aircraft.
When you are back at the clubhouse, the instructor will give you a flight de-brief and you will get a certificate of your flight completion. Later, the instructor will review the lesson with the Chief Flying Instructor and score your flight against a set of standards together with some notes as explained below. Once all the scholarship flights are complete the scores and reports of each flight will be evaluated by the scholarship committee at the club to decide a winner.
If you are already taking flying training, the scholarship evaluation will take that into account and you will be judged accordingly. If you win and have already started your flying training, the 15 hours can be used toward your PPL and any hours left over after passing your PPL can be used towards gaining additional rating(s) like night flying, in the same aircraft.
Things that will be measured :
1. Attitude - focus on safety and correct procedures
2. Effort – was the student prepared for the flight, did they demonstrate having studied the notes before arriving
3. Attention – were flying instructions followed, questions asked which demonstrate they were listening
4. Aptitude – did the student demonstrate capability to learn what was being taught
One winner will be chosen who will receive the prize up to a maximum value of $5,800. This is intended to cover:
- 15 hours flying in the club training aircraft, which under normal circumstances is enough to achieve first solo flight in an aeroplane
- 11.5 hours of pre-flight briefings
- NSAC PPL Theory and briefing notes
- PPL Theory Ground Course subscription
- Six months NSAC membership
- Pilot logbook
The intention is that, with the package offered and with focus and attention, the student should achieve their first solo flight. To fly solo requires passing a CAA class two medical which a normal healthy person should pass. The cost of the medical must be met by the winner. If the winner is not able to obtain the medical, they can still claim the full monetary value of the prize but they won't be able to achieve solo flight. The winner must also be able to provide proof of English speaking ability by showing they have undertaken three years English based education or three years English based employment or sit an IELTS test. If the winner cannot meet this obligation they can still claim the full monetary value of the prize but they won't be able to achieve solo flight. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash or on-sold. Anything not specifically stated as being part of the offer is excluded.
The prize is up to the maximum value of $5,800. The Scholarship prize is valid until January 31st 2016; if the contents of the prize are not utilised by this date any remaining value is forfeit. The last voucher will be redeemed on November 23rd 2015 and the winner will be announced on November 28th 2015.
All flying is weather dependent and the NSAC will make every effort to meet these dates, but if the weather is not suitable for flying, these dates may slip.
